In the main, West Ham striked.

It was allegedly, Millwall who didn't.

Re: Our cup final
Anyone who has been to West Ham v millwall will know who our rivals are. Different level of animosity to anyone else we play. This hatred of tottenham seems to be a more modern rivalry, Chelsea always seemed more hated a while back. Tott

Re: Our cup final
Not having this 'we have to play them to be rivals bollox

I said on here before that if we ended up in the same league as Brentford but a different one to Tottenham for 20 years would that make Brentford our main rivals?

No of course not.

Re: Our cup final
Spurs main rivalries are now Chelsea 1st and Arsenal 2nd

We come in 3rd...fuck me what a rivalry.

Personally I hate Chelsea much more.

Move on.

Millwall are in the bottom 3
Might need two relegations to play them

Re: Our cup final
Ok Millwall will always be the real rivals, but you have to play your enemies on a pretty regular basis to keep the rivalry up.

We are going to be playing the front wheels a minimum of three times this season. There’s a lot to dislike there. Relegation really wouldn’t be the end of the world for me though if it brought about more Millwall games.

Irrelevant shite club.
Millwall is and will always be my biggest rival.
Guarantee neck hairs standing up home or away and looked forward to the game for days before. No other team does this.
Spurs are another London club no more

Re: Our cup final
To be honest I think Spurs fans say it for two reasons.

Firstly of course, is because they are arrogant and deluded idiots who have this self importance that I have never understood. Even intelligent, decent and nice people I know who are Spurs fans turn like this when it comes to football.

Secondly they know it winds us up, which clearly it does. Just don't rise to it and enjoy their moaning and discomfort when we beat them just before they start pretending they don't care.

I remember my smile getting even wider leaving Upton Park in 2006 when a Spurs fan walking down Green Street said very loudly to his mate 'well it's nice to see a little team getting a win in their cup final' to which someone else replied in an even louder voice 'no, that's next week mate'. Even more so in the last game at Upton Park when a loudmouth in his mobile said 'can't beleive we let them win their cup final, we should have gone top' and someone tapped him on the shoulder and said 'not on our watch'.

Re: Our cup final
Only young but looking back -´and looking at Spurs now and then, I think Cold blow lane. No London ground would have an intimidating vibe - but the Upton Park - just the chicken run was enough -but Cold blow lane you could imagine all out battles and a fierce place to be and definitely only a place the most hardcore of West Hams older firm would not have felt intimidated, unlike imagine Arsenal ,Yids or Chelsea taking and giving Millwall shit ?

Re: Our cup final
As small as Millwall is, and excuse ignorance but does the rivalry go back to the iron works and a strike that West Ham docks did not back and created animosity with the South side and riots and a murder going back 1900 something.

Or is that bullshit.

Cant be bothered to wiki.

So surely despite their mere existence and lower leagues we have had our longest rivalry with the pikeys? proved up until that nutty cup game with all the SKY coverage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD8RMjM6DIA

hahaha could not be bothered to wiki but found this West Ham v Millwall peacefully watching some boxing bouts.

ps. I do not condone pointless violence and not sure if they are true West Ham etc on the clip.

Re: Our cup final
Craccus.

Again you have nailed it. I grew up in Limehouse/Poplar and in my adult life i have always seen my affection for West Ham as something more than just 'my football team'. As i explained to my kids (not Londoners) i see the club as an extension of my East End roots of which i am very proud of.

Sadly my kids, now adults are no closer to understanding why i am so full of passion for a club that invariably lets me down. Guess its one of those. You either know or you dont, and if you dont then i cant make anyone understand it.

Re: Our cup final
You are swallowing their bollocks , Lertie
They didn’t have Alli , Vertonghen & Rose.
We didn’t have Lanzini, Carroll, Wilshere , Reid etc etc plus Yarmolenko
They should have won the league in at least one of the last 4 seasons and haven’t on 2 occasions because we beat them.
Yeah , of COURSE they don’t care about us.

ps We both have the same number of PL titles

Re: Our cup final
Mace

No arguement with you - it's each to his own

When I was a lad I grew up within earshot of the ground and it was far more than football that club represented
There were absolute inherent reasons for 'rivalry', and it was never a choice or decision, it was more by social and historic osmosis

It is a mark of a truly great club that it genuinely has these, not nouveau flags of convenience but real reasons - there is not one Great Club that you can name that is not etched in a historic rivalry, and a vast number beneath that status

That mate is why the game is what it is - and long may it be so

Re: Our cup final
To Spurs we don't exist, we are an irrelevant shitty wee club, they play a weakened team, give one of their worst performances of the season and still win.
And some clowns on here are pleased with our performance, says it fucking all

crassus 100% correct.
It's an age thing and I'm nearly 70.

Re: Our cup final
We have no history with Spurs at all ! Our derby will always be Millwall and millwall games are like nothing any UK rivalry can compare with the exception of the old firm !

The North London derby is basically a pride march so Spurs want to pretend we think they are an important game for us !! I don't get it.
